On Sunday I felt a need to return to a location I shot the week before, Lanai Lookout aka, Secret Cave. A good friend of mine, Nicholas, contacted me the night before & wanted to shoot so I met him in the parking lot @6:15am. We proceeded to our short trek to the side of the mountain & into the lave tube. Midway through the lave tube I slipped on the loose gravel, which twisted my knee & ankle. My foot was stuck behind me in a crack & had to use both my hands to lift it up & back around me, which was a little painful, ouch! I've been 1st Aid trained previously in my day job, so I did the quick check to see of anything was broken & checked out. Surprisingly my knee was fine but the ankle was sore. I check my gear & the Wine Country Camera Filter holder took the brunt of the fall. Except for a few scratched on the wooden handles of the holder everything check out OK!
I got this far so I continued onward hobbling up & over rocks & then down to the shoreline. My shots weren't anything to call home about, I'm pretty sure that the pain from the sprained ankle was clouding my creativity & mobility. Plus the fact that the only clouds in sight, were a thin strip just above the horizon & above that nothing! I must say that the pre sunrise colors were amazing!
As soon as I got home I iced the ankle to keep down the swelling. Today on Monday the foot is swollen & I'm using a cane to get around the house. Used the R.I.C.E. acronym, which is the basic formula for any sprained muscles, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. I know this all too well taking care of my daughter & her basketball injuries. Well, I should be good by next weekend to shoot, but I'll keep away from any hiking down mountains for a while. Thank you Nicholas for keeping an eye on me, always appreciated my brother!
Aloha a hui hou my friends!
